Sk’il’ Mountain Community School was opened in October 2000 and operated in partnership with the Gold Trail School District until transitioning to a fully Band-operated school in 2021. Our school is currently operating a Pre-K to Grade 7 program with class sizes of approximately 15 students and a dedicated EA in each room. Tsal’alh operates Sk’il’ Mountain Community School following the BC school curriculum, with support and resources from FNESC and FNSA.Tsal'alh is nestled along Anderson and Seton Lakes in between Pemberton and Lillooet.
sal’alh is a semi-remote First Nations Community located in the Interior Region of BC. Tsal’alh has approximately 340 residents on reserve and is located about 65 km away from both Pemberton and Lillooet, BC.
Tsal’alh, which is located in areas more well known as Shalalth and Seton Portage, is nestled around 2 beautiful lakes and surrounded by scenic mountains. Our community is accessible year-round by service road, weather permitting, with the nearest towns being Lillooet and Pemberton (both are a 90 minute drive away). Tsal’alh is a 3.5-to-4-hour drive away from either Kamloops (east) or Vancouver (west).
Job Requirements and duties
- Planning, preparing and providing instruction according to the BC Curriculum.
- Providing classroom supervision and management.
- Employing positive behavioral interventions as necessary.
- Working with other instructional staff, such as Special Education Teachers, to ensure collaboration and implementation of IEPs.
- Implementing testing and report data as required.
- Modifying and adapting programs to account for a diversity of learning needs;
- Ensuring Sk’il’ Mountain Community School learning content is culturally appropriate, sensitive and significant. Consulting with community members, community leadership, and elders with regards to culture and language, as necessary.
- Maintaining up-to-date records.
- Collaborating with colleagues for the benefits of the school.
- Participating in school and community activities and extra-curricular activities;
- Working collaboratively with the First Nations Schools Association and FNESC representatives and specialists.
- Making referrals and providing information to specialists when necessary.
- Preparing relevant educational objectives and outlines for courses of study, following proper curriculum guidelines and related resources to support instruction.
- Evaluating student progress, recording results and issues, and informing parents of progress and issues.
- Participating in staff and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
- Advocating for special education in our school and community when necessary.
- Completing other duties as assigned within the same scope and job level.

Compulsory Schooling, skills and License's you Have:
- BC Teacher Regulation Branch certification.
- Knowledge of BC curriculum and experience using early literacy and early numeracy programs.
- Experience developing and implementing curriculum and instructional resources.
- Computer literacy and ability to effectively use technology in a classroom setting.
- Experience working with First Nations students or schools is preferred.
- An understanding and appreciation of First Nations, specifically, St’at’imc culture and history.
- Walking to the lake to see the salmon spawning
Working Time & Hours
Full-time, 35 hours a week. Normal hours are 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. On Fridays the school is open from 8:00 am to 12:15 pm to allow teachers and families to deal with shopping and other needs in Lillooet or Pemberton during business hours.

Compensation
- Although we are an independent First Nations Schools Association school we strive to offer salaries comparable to our neighboring School District, SD 74.
- Tsal’alh has affordable housing units available for rent.
